Rules for the MidAtlantic Korean Karate Championship Series

The MidAtlantic Korean Karate Championship Series allows competitors to accumulate points based on two facets of traditional karate competition which are tournament free sparing and hyung/kata (forms) and to award an overall winner based on level of experience and age at end of the season.

It is open to all competitors who participate in the following traditional Tang Soo Do Karate Championships across the 2018 Tournament Season:

  • Tang Soo Do Karate College Annual Invitational Championships, March 2018
  • Independent Tang Soo Do Association Annual Invitational Championships, September 2018
  • North American Karate and Fitness Annual Battle On The Mountain, November 2018
Points are awarded and accumulated as follows:

3 Points are awarded for a 3rd Place finish in forms and free sparring competition
4 Points are awarded for a 2nd Place finish in forms and free sparring competition
5 Points are awarded for a 1st Place finish in forms and free sparring competition

In the Black Belts and Masters Divisions 2 extra points are awarded for winning Grand Champion in Forms and Sparring
Across all three tournament competitions included in MidAtlantic Korean Karate Championship Series and for the purpose of determining an Overall Champion based on Level of Experience and Age the following divisions are used:

Divisions
Beginner - White Yellow and Orange Belts (10th Gup - 7th Gup)
Intermediate - Green Belts (6th Gup - 4th Gup)
Advanced - Red Belts (3rd Gup - 1st Gup)
Black Belt - 1st Dan - 3rd Dan)
Master- 4th Dan and up

The competitor with the highest overall point total for each Division above is awarded and presented the MidAtlantic Korean Karate Championship Series Overall Champion Cup for that division! The award and presentation ceremony will be held at the conclusion of the North American Karate and Fitness Annual Battle On The Mountain which is being held November 14th, 2015 at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Champion, PA

Update:
In addition to awarding an Overall Series Champion across divisions, the following additional awards will be presented across as Divisions:
1st Runner Up, 2nd Runner Up, 3rd Runner Up

All competitors who compete across all three Tournament Events will be presented with a Mid-Atlantic Korean Karate Participation Patch!

Example:

For the purpose of illustration we will use three 12 year old Intermediate Division Competitors (Student #1,#2,#3) who compete across all three tournaments.
  • Tang Soo Do Karate College Annual Invitational Championships
Student #1, Places 1st in Sparring and 3rd in Forms - Points (5 Forms + 3 Sparring) = 8 Total
Student #2 Places 2nd in Sparring and 1st in Forms - Points (4 Forms + 5 Sparring) = 9 Total
Student #3 Places 3rd in Sparring and 2nd in Forms - Points (3 Forms + 4 Sparring) = 7 Total
  • Independent Tang Soo Do Association Annual Invitational Championships
Student #1, Places 2nd in Sparring and 2nd in Forms - Points (4 Forms + 4 Sparring) = 8 Total
Student #2, Places 3rd in Sparring and 3rd in Forms - Points (3 Forms + 3 Sparring) = 6 Total
Student #3, Places 1st in Sparring and 1st in Forms - Points (5 Forms + 5 Sparring) = 10 Total
  • North American Karate and Fitness Annual Battle On The Mountain
Student #1, Places 1st in Sparring and 3rd in Forms - Points (5 Forms + 3 Sparring) = 8 Total
Student #2, Places 3rd in Sparring and 2nd in Forms - Points (3 Forms + 4 Sparring) = 7 Total
Student #3, Places 2nd in Sparring and 1st in Forms - Points (4 Forms + 5 Sparring) = 9 Total

Student #1 = 24 Total Points
Student #2 = 22 Total Points
Student #3 = 26 Total Points

Student #3 is awarded the MidAtlantic Korean Karate Championship Series Overall Champion Cup!
Considerations:

  • It is accepted that competitors may in fact move up in a division. For example there may be a 7th Gup Competitor that moves up from the Beginner Division into the Intermediate Division over the course of a year. In this case the competitor moving up in division keeps any points that the earned in the lower division.
